Bell Notes
Welcome to a new season of ringing God's praise!  Are you interested in a new way to participate in fellowship and worship?  Join the bells!  There is potential for a new group to start if we have 6 interested ringers.  From old traditional tunes to new compositions and Praise music, we have much to choose from!  Contact the church office or Kristi Keast if you'd like to give bells a swing.

Willing substitute ringers are always welcome, too.  Perhaps you have retired from ringing or took time off to raise children.  Maybe you're new to bells but want to test the waters first.  If this sounds like you, let Kristi know that you'd like to me on our substitute list.  Returning ringers--  As of press time we have investigated moving bell rehearsal for the main choir.  Suggested rehearsal times are Tuesdays 6 - 7 pm or Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30 pm.  If you have not replied to the email inquiry, please email or call Kristi at your earliest convenience.  We will begin rehearsals the week of August 30th regardless of the night selected.

"Mission of Hope"  ...Let's Do it Again!
On April 6th, our church provided lunch for 120 - 150 homeless people in Cedar Rapids.  Mission of Hope (MOH) provides a variety of services for the homeless in Cedar Rapids, including:
-Lunch for 120 - 150 people Tuesday thru Friday 11:00 - 11:30am.  The lunch is always nutritious, hearty and warm, including a main dish, two sides and a dessert.
-Coffee and breakfast in the morning.
-Food pantry where clients can get food once every two weeks.
     -Clothing closet.
-A separate shelter that houses 11 - 12 people who pay $3/day to stay.

Due to the amazing experience had by those involved, we have chosen to repeat this event on September 30, 2010.  We will soon be asking for donations of the items below.
-People to donate food or make cash donations to purchase food
-People willing to prepare the food here (MVUMC)
-People willing to transport and serve the food on Septermber 30th.

If this sounds like something  you would like to be a part of,  please let us know right away.  We are only able to bring a limited number of people to serve at Mission of Hope.  Contact the church office (319) 895-6286 or Sue Owen-Anton (319) 895-2345.

Salt and Light
This new program was created to expand our meal and outreach ministry.  The name "Salt and Light" is based on the Bible verses Matthew 5:13-16, which read, "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored?" and "You are the light of the world.  A city built on a hill cannot be hid.  No one after lighting a lamp puts it under a bushel basket, but on the lamp stand and gives light to all in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."

Salt and Light meal outreach is available to both church members and non-members.  If you wold like to become part of the outreach ministry, you can help us in two ways:
-  Make and/or deliver meals
-  If you know of someone who would benefit from our Salt and Light ministry, call us!
Join us in our efforts of becoming the Salt and Light in the lives of those in need.  For more information, call the church office (319) 895-6286 or Chris Davis at (319) 895-6412 or email here.

Adult Parlor Class
The Adult "Parlor Class" is beginning a new study on the relationship of faith and politics.  This promises to be a very interesting and enlightening topic, and one we hope you will join us to discuss!  The Parlor Class takes place at 9:45 AM in the Parlor Room behind the sanctuary.
